Minecraft is our primary tool to introduce kids to technology, art and programming. This track focuses on programming, coding, logic and building on technical skills. Join us as we create new items, weapons and creatures to the game by coding our own Data Pack, the next generation of Minecraft modding. Use custom hardware and Minecraft for Linux to write and inject custom Python scripts and program interactions between the game and the real world! Tap an IRL physical block and automagically place it in the game. Program special virtual robots with LUA & drag n drop interfaces to give robotic ‘turtles’ artificial intelligence. Watch them build, craft and mine with the AI programming you created! This topic is for aspiring coders who want to get their feet wet or expand their knowledge using everyone’s favorite educational tool and hit video game.

Fall – Data Modding

• Revised and expanded for After School this season we’ll create custom items and mobs using commands, code, pixel art and 3D modeling for your own data pack. Make a new food item with custom stats and buffs. Code new items like Thor’s hammer that shoots lightning. Model and texture a new creature like a lantern ghost and have it spawn naturally in the game to haunt the night sky. This is the modding of the future!

Winter – Python + Raspberry Pi

• Learn about Raspberry Pi Linux computers with this special version of Minecraft. Write custom Python scripts and inject them into Minecraft to add custom programs into the game. Write your own scripts to fetch information from the game such as coordinates to display on custom hardware. Use NFC (Near Field Chip) integrations to interact with the real world blocks to select in game blocks. Tap a real block on the NFC reader to place it in the game!

Spring – AI Robotics

• Program custom virtual robots known as ‘Turtles’ to automate building, mining and more while learning coding logic! Use a drag & drop interface to learn logic and programming order within our custom version of Minecraft. Use the advanced interface to write real LUA scripts. Use Robotics within Minecraft to interface with the virtual world like never before!
